3D laser scanning is an interesting new method for documentation of polar heritage. IPHC members have for example used this technology at the historic bases on Ross Island, Antarctica and are currently involved in scanning the abandoned whaling stations on South Georgia.  The attached article Application of 3D Laser Scanning to the Preservation of Fort Conger concerns a site in arctic Canada and describes some of the challenges and rewards of using this method in polar areas.
